Epson Monochrome Printers are ideal for offices, offering a cost-effective alternative to laser printers. They consume low power, making them functional even during power cuts when connected to a UPS. These printers use pigment black ink, known for smudge and water resistance, delivering high-quality prints. With 120 ml ink bottles yielding approximately 4000 prints, the ink cost per print is around 20 paise.
Epson Monochrome Printers can be easily categorized based on their features.
A4 Monochrome Printers
Single Function Printers (Only Print)
Epson M1100, M1120, M1050, M1140, M170 and M1180 are all models that belong to this category.
M1100 is the most basic printer model in this category it can only print and does not have any additional features such as Wi-Fi.
M1050 and M2120 are both similar models and are an upgrade compared to M1100. They are single function printers with Wi-Fi functions which enables printing from remote devices and also printing from mobile ( you need to download Epson iPrint app or Epson smart panel app to control the printer from your mobile device)
From the pictures above you can see that M1050 has a different design compared to the rest of the models in this category. M1050 is a newer model printer which uses the Epson Precision Core Printhead technology while all the other printers in this category use the older piezoelectric printhead. M1050 also uses the rear feed paper feeding mechanism while the other printers have a paper cassette in front of the printer, so the paper takes a U-turn path when it gets printed.
This difference in paper feed mechanism may be important depending on the paper sizes that you use for printing. The sensors of M100 series usually do not pick up papers of unconventional sizes such as cut-sheet paper(1/2 of A4) but M1050 due to having rear feed mechanism does not have this issue.
So it is generally recommended choosing a printer with rear feed mechanism such as M1050 and M2050 when you want to print with unconventional paper sizes.
M1140, M1170 and M1180 are printers that have duplex printing functions( double sided printing)
M1140 does not have Wi-Fi so it can only be used as a standalone device with duplex printing functions.
M1170 & M1180 both are equipped with Wi-Fi and Duplex functions. M1180 is equipped with an additional PCL(Printer Control Language) support
Multifunction Printers
From this point on all the printers are equipped with an LCD touch screen and certain high end models are equipped with a touch screen which makes it convenient to operate the printer.
Having a LCD screen enables you to use features such as
- Text size reduction/ enlargement
- choosing the number of copies to print directly after scanning
- Change text thickness to make it bold are thinner.
M2120 and M2050 are Multifunction printers similar to M2110 but they have Wi-Fi Functions. M2050 also has Ethernet functions but M2120 lacks that. M2050 is a newer model similar to M1050 in having the rear feed paper feeding mechanism, so if you are using any unconventional paper sizes for printing then they will be the right printers for you.
M3140 does not have Wi-Fi or Ethernet functions, but M3170 and M3180 have both these functions and M3180 has an additional PCL support.
A3 Monochrome Printers
There are two printers exclusively for monochrome printing
The M15140 and M15180 are A3 All-in-One Printers that, in fact, boast the highest printing speeds in Epson’s monochrome range, reaching up to 25 pages per minute (25 ipm). As the top-end models in the Epson EcoTank lineup, they not only include all features found in previous models but also bring enhanced functionality. Specifically, the M15180 offers additional PCL support, which the M15140 does not have. Furthermore, both printers are designed for high-volume printing, handling up to 300 prints daily with ease.
